Views From Brooke House

(Looking East)

The View from my window. Foreground is the Toys R Us roof, the telephone exchange behind it and on the horizon is Benfleet/Hadleigh, before the terrain dips down beyond Bread and Cheese Hill to the right of the horizon.

Looking over the top of SavaCentre (now Asda's) in the middle ground is the housing in Nether Priors and Clickett Hill, the trees belong to the area around Puck Lane and the railway lines. You might notice a slight spike on the horizon, roughly in the centre. That is the water tower on Essex Way, on the borders of Hadleigh, the last hump on the horizon further right than the last tall tree, is Old Leigh, before the coast line turns the corner to Chalkwell and out of view.

The houses in the foreground are part of the Ghyllgrove Estate, and include The Gore, Butneys and other streets whose names i do not know - you could always check the map yourself? Save me a job In the background is the Festival Leisure Park and in the distance, it gives you a view of the hills going towards the A130 and edges of Wickford, but I am unsure of the exact parts.

View of the Fire Station and Ghyllgrove, you can see what used to be called the 'Fords Onion' in the background to the left. The tall trees in the picture surround Holy Cross Church, just off Church Road.

BIG, Big, big skies, Something you don't see in many places in Basildon, we are pretty lucky here in Brooke House to have such a fab. view.

At the back of the Post Office, the Royal Mail vans look like a row of soldiers in the foreground. The clouds are out and again the sky is very, very BIG.

It isn't always sunshine from our windows, here you can see the rains breaking over the A130 and the North Benfleet area.

You can really appreciate a good storm sky from up here, but no photo can capture the sheer enormity of the view that i see when the clouds rear up prior to a good show, the thunder storms can be as dramatic as theatre when in full flow!

Do you notice the clouds being swept in a circular motion as the warm front makes headway and the clouds spit out the last of their rain. The sun is trying to make an appearance just minutes after the drama has ended.

Rainbow, on the edge of the cloud structure, like a small reward for watching the storm grow and subside. A sure sign that the sun is out on the other side of Brooke House.

You can see the heaving grey storm clouds as they move away from Basildon to perform for another town, allowing the sun to bounce off the leaves and buildings and brighten the town again.

The Cars and buildings positively glow in the aftermath of the short, sharp, dramatic, storm. The pot of gold at the end of this rainbow looks like it could be under the crossroads of Broadmayne, but please don't go digging there.

There is one other view that is totally priceless - New Year's Eve - Midnight, all over town fireworks explode into the sky.

The fireworks all go off at the same time or within five minutes of each other, creating a view that I can only describe as spectacular!!

I haven't got any pictures of that yet, but you should come back nearer the time and i'll try to get New Years Eve pix to show you.

Some night views

A view over the Post Office area public car park, with Toys R Us roof to the right of shot. The faint lights to the left of the picture running in a vertical line, are from various streets and roads in the Ghyllgrove area, but they give me a place from whence to show where Whitmore Way is, and that is, slightly to the right of that vertical line, in a 'D' shaped curve, but it is very faint. Broadmayne runs up the right of centre of the shot - you can see the blue of the headlights of cars heading towards the town.

In this picture you can just see the lights of Pitsea Flyover, to the right of centre about a 1cm stripe. If you view these pictures in a dark room you should still be able to see the horizon (just).

Another shot of the rear of the shops facing Toys R Us - straight ahead with Pitsea Flyover again glowing in the background.

This is the service area behind Eastgate, looks lovely in the shot, but often a source of noise and regular disturbance to Brooke House residents since the time Eastgate was built. (Grrr) Rubbish compactors, building works at unhealthy hours etc.

The Royal Mail car park with their off duty soldiers resting up until deliveries commence at the crack of daylight, no disturbances here I am pleased to declare. In the distance is the Festival Leisure Park lighting up the party go-ers. As these photographs are taken mid-evening, the Festival Leisure area is just getting going, for the revellers.

Yet another shot, of the post office car park, opposite the Fire Station which can be seen to the left of the picture in the middle of the vertical aspect. 'Staples' lights up the centre of the shot. Thank goodness they stopped leaving their main entrance light blazing through the night; in the name of energy efficiency and/or wastage, also, it makes sleeping a little bit easier if you live on this side of Brooke house, in particular on the lower reaches of the block.

Stay posted for for new shots, hopefully from the other side (West Side) of the block, in the near future.
